Visit our new website

We're cutting the ribbon on another new store today... This one is located in your browser at www.gimmecoffee.com.  We launched yesterday afternoon and still this morning I'm standing on my desk clapping and whistling, hooting and hollering in acknowledgment of the milestone.  It was an enormous undertaking for a 3-person team and I'm proud to announce, "We've crossed the starting line".

Please check it out.

Landmines kill coffee farmers

Before the Coffeelands presentation at the Barista Jam in Easton, I wasn't sufficiently aware of the problem of land mines in coffee-producing countries.  Upon returning home, I did some searching and found 2 videos on the subject.  After watching them, I decided to go one step further.

Guatemalan Coffee Atlas

I stumbled upon this 31 page 2007-08 Guatemalan Coffee Atlas published by Anacafé... a 26 MB pdf resource worth sharing.  The Search System they are developing also seems pretty compelling at first glance.

Improvementum

Just two more weeks!  (...as I've been telling our Cayuga Street baristas for the last 2 months.)

Now, we're beginning to see, there is indeed a beautiful light at the end of the tunnel.

Cayuga St renovation is under way

080105_cayuga002_2 Step 1:  Remove 5 layers of drop ceiling to gain 2 feet of space over head.

That's much better.

Off to Nariño & Cauca, Colombia

Colo_trip

Next week, I'll be in Colombia touring farms in Nariño and cupping coffee in Cauca with Tim, George, Aleco, and the folks from Virmax

I'm looking forward to the sensory excursion and camaraderie.

Here is a slide-show of how the region looks when it is sunny out.  My photos will bring you up-close and personal with the rainy-season.

A retrospective will follow.

Be well!

Trolling in the used marketplace

Petroncini2A month ago, I was really in the market for a stand-alone cooling tray to enable faster cooling out of the Sivetz.

When I asked around for prices on new bean coolers, the prices took my breath away and made me yearn for something a bit more...depreciated

Trolling in the used marketplace I discovered a beautiful cooler conjoined in transactional solidarity with a drum roaster which had been damaged in transport from Europe some time ago.

The price (even if we were getting just the cooling tray) was too good to pass up.  I decided it would be best to take custody and bring it in for some TLC.

We take delivery next Tuesday.
